Humans have this insatiable need to define, categorize, and analyze every thing in his/her world. People being at the top of the list. Think about it take a special group of people to analyze plants and animals, rocks and things, but most everybody upon meeting some one will size them up. So to speak. Oh she’s from that part of town. Her dad works at such and such a place. She’s myage . And on and on again. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong. It’s just the way we are wired. We are more comfortable if we know what and who we are dealing with.
I must confess I find myself doing the very same thing. I do have a problem with some of the labeling and / or profiling , stereotyping, narrow-minded prejudices some have displayed to another person or group of people. That is the seed from which wars are grown. I realize we all share the same air space, but I don’t have to agree with the neanderthal mind set that many are holding on to.
I guess we as individuals can’t be held totally accountable for our belief systems. I mean after all we learned from a parent,an adult , guardian, or authority figure. And they learned from their parents, etc.etc and their parents learned from their parents, etc, etc.
It really isn’t a bad environment for learning. But then we are back again to the question, what is being taught? Now if the history we were taught in school bares me true then in the beginning days of the Americas, we were colonies of England. In a basic description, there was the King and/or the royal family and then there were the subjects.
As an attempt to liberate themselves from the all controlling King the founding fathers introduced changes to the system. Upper class , middle class, lower class? Has it proved any better? There are still ones that command to lead and there are those that choose or are forced tho follow. And the poor get poorer, the rich get richer, and the rest get lost in between . Caught in mediocrity or worse sliding downward into poverty. We have to change our mind not just our appearance. You can fancy up the outside of a house but step inside to a total mess..
Living in the box? It allows you to grow just so much. Just enough to pacify. Built for that purpose I presume . To just be given enough that you are content, but still baring the yoke and reins.
Outside the box. That’s where I want to be ……
