DC Follies

DC follies in real-time. Just when we thought it was safe… As a casual observer, one would think at this time in American history that we would be leaning more towards unity and harmony. Seeking common ground and compromise, working together, and healing one another.

Instead, it is quite the opposite, Contention and division dominate a large percentage of the DC players, leaving no room for conversation, let alone a purposeful discussion leading to compromise and actually working together to get the job done. It makes me wonder how much concern there is for the American people or are they self-seeking or is it all about money and party dominance.

Whatever the agenda or motivation is, the bottom line is it is hurting the American people. What makes it even more concerning is that the American people are equally divided. So, in essence, we are hurting ourselves.

I’m not saying we don’t have the capacity to learn, but there is a need to update where we are getting our information. The days of Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver, and the 5 o’clock News, is long gone. A handful of media sources has increased by the hundreds if not thousands with some credible, some not so, and others totally false. This is why it is of the uttermost importance to watch smartly. Don’t believe strictly on the basis that it is coming from the popular media outlet or from a popular politician or even your party of choice. If you get that gut feeling something isn’t quite right, it doesn’t jive right with your belief system, don’t ignore that feeling. Take the time to investigate all sides. I can tell you right now it is time well spent.

I’m not here to tell you how to think, who to believe in, how to act, or how to react. You can be a free thinker.

I’m not going to preach religion at you, but I am reminded of this bible verse,” do unto others as you would have them do unto you” slightly Nick paraphrase.

I was looking in google search to make sure I had the quote correct and was totally amazed that every major religious sect has similar verses. I will include some below: A man should wander about treating all creatures as he himself would be treated.

— Sutrakritanga, 1.11.33

In happiness and suffering, in joy and grief, we should regard all creatures as we regard our own self.

— Lord Mahavira, 24th Tirthankara

“What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others.”

Do not do unto others whatever is injurious to yourself.

— Shayast-na-Shayast 13.29

Here ye these words and heed them well, the words of Dea, thy Mother Goddess, “I command thee thus, O children of the Earth, that that which ye deem harmful unto thyself, the very same shall ye be forbidden from doing unto another, for violence and hatred give rise to the same. My command is thus, that ye shall return all violence and hatred with peacefulness and love, for my Law is love unto all things. Only through love shall ye have peace; yea and verily, only peace and love will cure the world, and subdue all evil.”

— The Book of Ways, Devotional Wicca

One who is going to take a pointed stick to pinch a baby bird should first try it on himself to feel how it hurts.

— Yoruba Proverb

20. Try to treat others as you would want them to treat you.

— The Way to Happiness, Precept 20[58][59]

There are too many more quotes than I have allotted for this post. If you care to read more just type golden rule to google. What I have given you here is a taster. It kind of makes you think, different times, same message. You would think by now we would get it.

  1. Nick, from what I’ve observed in real life, virtual life (the internet), and in other media sources, the US is repeating history, just as it has been done countless times before. There is nothing we can do to stop it. Hopefully, when the experience is over, we will have learned something, but we shouldn’t rely on that happening.

    • You are absolutely correct. History repeating itself can be extended to cover the whole human race. Although that is an increasingly saddening thought, personally I remain pessimistically hopeful, if I may be allowed to use said oxymoron.
